Esther Dere has spent nearly two decades working in television, with vast experience across multiple genres and in all facets of the industry. Her work has been recognized with three Emmy Nominations, an IDA Award for the film Universe and a Gracie Award for How To Fix A Pageant.
Based in New York by way of Los Angeles, British-born and raised Esther cut her teeth in public relations working on consumer, lifestyle, and fashion brands before making the jump into producing and directing documentaries and series, often with a focus on the fashion, music, and pop culture spaces—and always with a visual flair. Her projects have included The Grass is Greener for Netflix and Empires of New York for CNBC, and more recently she was the showrunner of The New York Times Presents, the anthology documentary series from the New York Times, Left/Right, FX and Hulu. Her efforts for the series include ‘The Legacy of J Dilla‘ which she co-directed, The Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pellicano and ‘Broken Horses’ . Esther is a experienced team leader and collaborator who deeply values the balance between hands-on guidance and empowering her team to thrive independently. She leads with intention, fostering an environment that prioritizes both productivity and the well-being of her colleagues.
Esther is also a coach and a certified meditation teacher (400 hrs).
